Catalonia is a land that has it all: a sea, mountains, plains, rivers, forests… Despite its great geographical differences, the whole territory has one thing in common: sun. Sunny days are one of the hallmarks of the Mediterranean climate.
This is why installing solar panels in Catalonia has many advantages.
In Catalonia, more than 80% of days are sunny during the year, with a total of 2,700 hours of sunlight, placing it above many other areas of the state, and most countries in the rest of Europe.
Catalonia has always had a vision of the future and innovation. Thus, it should come as no surprise that it is committed to the energy transition and photovoltaic installations, with IBI (Real Estate Tax) rebates of up to 50%, and Next Generation European subsidies.

Financial support for solar panels in Catalonia
Catalonia offers tax advantages on the Real Estate Tax (IBI) and Next Generation EU regional subsidies for installing self-supply photovoltaic solar panels.
There is a high number of municipalities in Catalonia that can benefit from IBI reductions. In fact, it is the third autonomous community with the most rebates, for which up to 85% of the population is eligible.
In Catalonia, the Property Tax (IBI) rebate is the reduction in this municipal tax that municipalities offer to citizens for the installation of photovoltaic systems on their properties. They will vary depending on the municipality and the installation.
IBI rebates for self-supply solar panel installations must indeed be requested, and the municipalities are in charge of their management. In general, the request can be made in several ways: in person, by requesting an appointment with the Taxpayer Service Offices of the city hall in question; via registration at the city hall, and also at Government Subdelegations, the Civil Registry, Post Office, etc. And electronically, through the Virtual Office of the City Hall.
The discount for the IBI rebate for the installation of solar panels in Catalonia reaches 50% of the rate for 12 years, always depending on each location. In Barcelona, for example, the rebate is 50% for 3 years. In Gerona, Lérida, Terrassa, Sabadell, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Castelldefels, Reus or Mataró it is 50% for 5 years.

European subsidies for renewable energy self-supply facilities.
These funds are managed by Spain’s regional governments (comunidades autónomas) and are issued in the order in which they were requested. In Catalonia, the following subsidies have been defined for photovoltaic installations. The beneficiaries are individuals as well as building associations and companies:
For a new self-supplying photovoltaic installation in a private home, the subsidy will be 600 €/kWp (kilowatt peak, the unit used to measure the capacity of a solar photovoltaic installation).
Generically, for a photovoltaic installation, subsidies will be 35% for small companies, 25% for medium-sized companies and 15% for large companies. For storage, the subsidies will be higher: 65% for small companies; 55% for medium-sized companies; 45% for large companies.
For additions to an existing PV installation, the subsidy will be between €140 and €490/kWh.

Photovoltaic energy
They capture the sun’s energy and transform it into direct current electrical energy.
They are placed under each panel and independently convert direct current to alternating current to optimize the performance of each panel.
The use of the battery is optional, and serves to store solar energy and meet your energy needs 24 hours a day.
If you do not consume all the energy generated, the meter measures the surplus electricity that you place on the grid, to obtain the corresponding surplus compensation.
The monitoring system sends the information on the installation and power generation to your cell phone and to our Control Center to track its proper functioning.

Actual case
This is the story of Francesc and the solar project that turned him into a self-supplier.
Get all the details about your installation: from your first contact with us, through the installation, and the app that allows you to track your production and consumption on a daily basis.
The price of a solar panel is usually around 200 €, although many other aspects must be taken into account when purchasing a photovoltaic installation and calculating an overall budget, such as the range of the panel and the other essential components for the operation of the system (brackets, inverter, monitoring, batteries, personnel…).
The price of photovoltaic solar panels has dropped 80% in 5 years. Currently, a photovoltaic installation can start at 4,000 euros. There is also the possibility of 100% financing of your installation, as well as European subsidies and state rebate, such as on the IBI, in most cities in Spain.
On a technical level, there are only a few requirements to install solar panels in Catalonia:
There is no state legislation that prevents, prohibits or fines citizens for the installation of solar panels in private homes. On the contrary, the installation of solar panels for self-supply is strongly encouraged by public administrations. What we can find are some particularities at the local level. In any case, Solideo tracks all the legal requirements and advises its customers to make the best choice in each case.
In Catalonia, the installation of self-supply photovoltaic systems is promoted for individuals, building associations and companies. In any case, it will help owners to save energy, money and contribute to the conservation of the environment with clean energy. Depending on the type of installation, it will have different characteristics and will be eligible for different subsidies and grants, which include:
